In 1967 Joe Quinn set up Galco Steel Ltd to manufacture water tanks, troughs, gutters and fixings. Part of the production process involved galvanizing the material in a homemade galvanizing bath and he quickly realised that there was an even greater opportunity in developing this aspect of the business.
In 1970 Galco opened its first commercial Hot Dip Galvanizing plant in Ballymount and the business grew from strength to strength. The Galco Group now serves the entire island with plants in Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Galway and Derry.
True to its origins, Galco remains a manufacturer of galvanized steel water tanks and access covers and has also become one of the largest distributors of Channel Drainage, and Safety Markings in Ireland.
