Enduring Steel Balconies at Broomhill House

O’Carroll Engineering manufactured and installed 100 sleek, modular cantilevered steel balconies for the Broomhill social housing project. Leveraging Galco’s state of the art hot dip galvanizing process, which will provide these balconies with corrosion protection against environmental wear for over a century.

Broomhill House, a contemporary social and affordable housing development, features 124 apartments that required a balcony solution to match its architectural elegance. The project consists of two buildings, one five stories and the other six stories, featuring a mix of individual balcony units and terraced configurations.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the primary challenges was accommodating the varying balcony depths. While the predominant balcony depth was 1.7 m, variations in the building’s structure required tailored solutions.

O’Carroll Engineering excelled in addressing this challenge by producing and installing 100 modular cantilevered steel balconies seamlessly integrated within the architectural framework.

This adaptability was crucial for maintaining the building’s aesthetic and structural coherence.

Best in Class Materials and Protection

Constructed from hot dip galvanized mild steel, the support beams and structures offer unparalleled strength and corrosion resistance. This ensures that the balconies are not only robust but also capable of enduring urban environmental conditions for decades.

Galco’s galvanized finish guarantees the design life of our mild steel products – says Adrian O’Connell, Commercial & Technical Manager at O’Carroll Engineering. – It provides the consistency in coverage to exceed requirements with minimal maintenance.

Galco were also able to guarantee a quick turnaround in the galvanizing process ensuring the project could be delivered on time.

A Legacy of Durability

The Broomhill House project exemplifies the exceptional benefits of steel balconies designed by O’Carroll Engineering and hot dip galvanized by Galco. The combination of strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal provided by the used system ensures these balconies will endure, offering residents a worry-free experience and leaving a lasting legacy for the development.
