Balcony Drainage on 55 Lad Lane

55 Lad Lane is a six-storey city centre mixed-use development in Dublin, comprising 25 modern apartments and a large off-street Enterprise Centre with basement-level car parking. All balconies and the whole structure are protected from standing and leaking water with over 400 meters of Galco’s perforated linear drainage.

55 Lad Lane is located in Dublin’s historic Central Business District, between Baggot Street and Leeson Street.

The development comprises 25 luxury apartments and penthouses with underground parking and 9,500 square feet of Grade A office space on the ground floor, along with concrete floors with a high acoustic performance used throughout the development.

The apartments and penthouses enjoy direct access to St. Stephen’s Green, Grafton Street, Grand Canal Dock, and Merrion Square, as well as many cafés, bars, hotels, and restaurants.

All the two-and three-beds have large, private drained terraces at each end of their long axis: as the architects put it, the front and rear elevations have an irregular and varied pattern as each unit is defined by a series of angled screen walls, alternating at each level and designed to shield the main living and sleeping areas from overlooking, and to frame the views over the city.

Why Drainage On Balconies?

Balconies and terraces increase the utility and recreational value of the house. In addition, they diversify the facade. But…

Standing or leaking water on the balcony slab causes permanent damage to the structure and finishing materials.

It also threatens the façade of the building below its level. Therefore, it is necessary to skillfully perform the balcony drainage that will allow water to drain off.

We recommended shallow channel drainage with perforated galvanized grating – says Chris White, Galco’s drainage advisor. – The corrosion-protected drains protect the building from ponding water while offering a sleek modern look.

Galco offers a wide range of balcony drainage with different construction widths (115-255 mm) and heights (45-150 mm) with galvanized or stainless steel gratings. All systems ensure simple connection and hydraulic efficiency.
